The New Beginning!

So finally! Here are some snaps of our finished house. We've been living in it for 7 months and LOVE it. This house works like it was designed to work. It's cool and there's always a breeze to keep the air fresh. The downstairs living area is open and comfortable and, just like Sharon says under one of the photographs, we walk out and jump in the pool at least twice a day. When we moved in last winter we used the pool heater for the months of December thru February so it made no difference that the outside temperature wasn't 85 degrees. Our kitchen is a dream to work in and the fact that we splurged to have a water purification system making all tap water potable allows us to have an ice maker in our fridge. And we use a lot of ice! Upstairs both bedrooms feel really spacious and the guest room has, so far, been visited by these friends: Wolfgang Collins from Taos, Ani and David Sharp from Santa Rosa, Steven Cole & Stephen Penning from Ajijic and, all the way from Maui, Calvin Wada. We'll probably never know if it's true or not but way back when we were in the design phase of this project, Christine said we were building the house because Oatmeal (our cat) needed a stable home. Well, he's got it. We are truly and properly grateful for this place and are enjoying it to the max one day or less at a time. THE END!!!

The New Beginning Photos

The house as seen from across the street.
Our new Ford Escape in the garage.

This is the front of the house. The door to the
left is to the garage. The plant in the brown
planter is a gardenia.

Carl really wanted a traveler's palm. We planted
one here beside the wall where it will have lots
of room to grow. They get very big.

One of the heliconia in the front yard. The beds
are planted with heliconia, ginger and ferns.

What would a front entrance be without
a mahalo sign? This one came from our friend,
Bev, all the way from Maui. Thanks!

The open front door looking down
from the stairway.

This is the powder room off the hallway.
We used the Talavera sink in this bath
with a marigold colored wall.

We are standing at the front door
looking into the hallway toward the
bookcase in the living room.

We love the kitchen. Kriss' cabinets look
so beautiful and earthy. It is spacious and
light and Carl has a 6 burner stove with
my fabulous oven.

This is the other side of the kitchen.
We have a great fridge with icemaker.
Carl is sitting in the "office". The computer,
printer, files etc. are housed here.

We begin to get local mangos in April. Then
the season seriously begins and they are
everywhere, very inexpensive and every one
who has a tree is trying to give them away.

Our comfy living room. Do you remember
what the sofa looked like when Sharon
brought it home from Ajijic?

The dining room table set for our first brunch.
Our friends Carole & Carl, Beryl & Garry
& Robert joined us for good food
and travel stories.

The chile red wall and breakfront
in the dining room.

This is the upstairs hallway. Sharon bought
the cantaras in Tonala and we had them painted black.
The piece on the wall is made of banana leaves and
has a light behind it. Oatmeal loves to hang out
here. We think it is the breeze.

We are standing in the doorway
of the guest room looking into the hall
towards the master bedroom.

This is the guest room. The orange wall looks very
different with the furniture, bedding and art.

The guest bathroom is bright
and light and cheery.

Sharon has been buying these paper mache
"bordello" dolls in Tonala. They live above
the closet in the guest bath.

Here is the master bathroom.
We like having separate sinks
and lots of space.

The sitting area of the master bedroom.
Sharon likes to come up here to read
and Oatmeal usually joins her.

Our bedroom. It is spacious and airy and
colorful. We have it filled with art
we brought down from Taos.

These are the steps in the back that lead
upstairs. Each color is one used inside the house
and has a red geranium on it.

This is the patio at the back of the
house. We have antherium, bird of paradise,
desert rose, a thornless lime tree for Carl
and some orchids for Sharon.

Ahhhhh....the best part for us. We are
in this pool at least twice a day. What a blessing!
From here you can see the heliconia, palm tree and hibicus.

We had a house warming party in February.
This is the dining room table with some of the food.
